Bilkent University Dormitories and Sports Fields
University campuses become archetypes of design world not only by offering living environments but also by providing good environmental conditions and value-added qualities. Pioneer campuses of Turkey, like Middle East Technical University, Hacettepe University, and Bilkent University, which were used to be at the western periphery of the city by the time they were designed, are three of the major representatives of Ankara and this situation is of course not a coincidence.
In each of them from the basic design idea to details, from faculty buildings to uniting squares and pedestrian alleys, from loop vehicular networks to car parking areas, we see signatures of their landscape designs. In consideration with this attitude, new open areas proposed and designed for Bilkent University dormitories and sports fields reflect a social and just space approach.
The Project site is placed at the existing environment of student dormitories having a large area of 128,550 m2, including different functions like the old Stadium, vacant open spaces, a hill, and nurseries. Sports fields will vary and increase by function and quality, contribute to campus life, and will form a new activity node and a model for urban landscape design via realization of the project.
Sports fields, open-air study room, walk ways and steps, climbing wall, graffiti surfaces and kay-kay platform, activity lawn, recreation and leisure spaces, tribunes and storage areas, café and terraces will enhance an active, sustainable landscape while carrying Bilkent University Campus to a ‘greener future’.
